Gallagher Helps Return Nearly $6 Million to North State Taxpayers
PARADISE, CA — Congressman James Gallagher (CA-01) announced Wednesday that his office helped return nearly $6 million to North State taxpayers through constituent casework during Fiscal Year 2026.
Gallagher’s office resolved 195 cases totaling more than $5.88 million for constituents across California’s First Congressional District. The money included funds taxpayers were already owed but had struggled to recover through the normal federal process.
“Behind that $5.88 million number are real people. These are families and small business owners who were waiting on money that belonged to them,” said Congressman Gallagher. “Sometimes our most important work has nothing to do with passing a bill in Washington. It’s helping somebody back home cut through the bureaucracy and get a problem solved. If someone in the North State is stuck dealing with the IRS or another federal agency, my office is here to help. That’s what we’re here for.”
Gallagher highlighted the results during a press conference at Paradise Town Hall alongside Paradise Mayor Steve Crowder, North State constituents and members of the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service. Gallagher also recognized Taxpayer Advocate Service employees who have worked with his office to resolve difficult cases on behalf of North State residents.
“When people run into a wall with the federal government, they need to know somebody is willing to help them find a way through it,” said Paradise Mayor Steve Crowder. “Nearly $6 million returned to people here in the North State is a real result that makes a difference for families and local businesses. I appreciate Congressman Gallagher and his team making constituent service a priority.”
The Taxpayer Advocate Service is an independent organization within the IRS that assists taxpayers facing unresolved tax problems. Gallagher’s office works directly with federal agencies and constituent advocates to help residents navigate cases when they have exhausted normal channels and are still unable to reach a resolution.
“People shouldn’t have to spend months fighting Washington just to get money they’re already owed,” Gallagher said. “Our job is to answer the phone, get to work and help solve the problem.”
