We've known for years that the trust funds supporting our nation’s most vital programs are on the brink of collapse. Yet rather than try to solve this problem, Congress has kicked the can down the road and avoided the tough debates needed to fix the mess we can all see coming.

Madam Speaker, I rise today to recognize Jeffrey Knaus of De Pere, Wisconsin on celebrating his retirement from the Plumbers and Steamfitters United Association Local 400. His leadership in Wisconsin’s trade industry is an excellent example of dedication to a craft and service to one’s community.

Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI), alongside Reps. Ed Case (D-HI), William Timmons (R-SC), and Ben McAdams (D-UT), today introduced the Time to Rescue United States’ Trusts (TRUST) Act, a bill that would establish special congressional rescue committees tasked with crafting legislation that restores and strengthens federal trust funds on the brink of insolvency.

Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) today applauded the Environmental Protection Agency’s updated action plan to protect and restore the Great Lakes under the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI). The plan, GLRI Action Plan III, will strengthen the clean-up of toxic pollutants, control invasive species, reduce algal blooms, and continue Great Lakes education and outreach efforts.
