Rep. Gallagher Discusses Iran on Wisconsin Radio

June 21, 2019

Yesterday, Rep. Gallagher joined WISN's The Jay Weber Show and WTAQ's The John Muir Show to discuss recent events in Iran. Catch some highlights from the interviews below.

The Jay Weber Show:

"Bottom line, Iran is lashing out because Iran is actually in a very weak and precarious position. They are afraid of their own people. Their own people have been protesting persistently for the last two years, so this is a very dangerous situation but the Administration is on the right track."

"Too often, particularly when we're talking about conflict in the Middle East, we're given the false choice between doing nothing on the one hand and all-out Iraq-style ground invasion on the other hand. Obviously, we have a multitude of options between those two poles. Limited military strikes, economic pressure, and perhaps most importantly working by with and through our local allies so they can take action so that we don't have to do everything ourselves. "

The John Muir Show:

"War is never easy, it is never simple, it is very complicated. We saw that in Iraq, we saw that in Afghanistan, we've seen that time and again. So I count myself in the Peace Through Strength crowd. We need to have a strong military in order to have options, to have deterrence and thereby avoid war. And I still think we have the ability to do that in this case. And we need to find a way to play a little moneyball in the Middle East if we want to shift our focus to China over the long term, which is the bigger threat."
