Rep. Gallagher Condemns Vladimir Putin & Russian Aggression in House Floor Speech

March 31, 2017

Washington, D.C. – Yesterday on the House Floor, Rep. Mike Gallagher delivered a blistering speech condemning Vladimir Putin's regime for its fear tactics, oppression of the Russian people and threats against U.S. interests. At the end of his speech, Rep. Gallagher pressed his colleagues on both sides of the aisle to not entrench in their partisan corners and instead pursue impartial investigations into Russia's efforts to undermine U.S. democracy.

In the speech, Rep. Gallagher highlights the ways in which Vladimir Putin and his regime are fundamentally at odds with American interests, and has defined Putin's goal as ending "the post-war American project in Europe and the return of power politics unencumbered by the rules of the road we established—to our benefit—in concert with our allies."

He continued to address what he believes Putin's motivations and aims to be stating "I do not believe [Vladimir] Putin desires war with the United States. What he desires is the fruits of conquest without its costs. He holds the cards of a bluffer, and he is gradually raising the stakes in an effort to get us to fold," said Rep. Gallagher.
