ICYMI: Gallagher Talks Golan Heights, Mueller on Benson and Harf

March 28, 2019

Earlier this week, Congressman Mike Gallagher joined Guy Benson on Benson and Harf for a conversation about President Trump's declaration on Golan Heights and the Mueller report. Read highlights from his interview below, or click here to watch the full interview.

On President Trump's recognition of Israeli Sovereignty of the Golan Heights:

"President Trump is right to acknowledge just the simple reality on the ground. Since 1981, Israeli law, jurisdiction, and administration has extended into the Golan Heights. Israeli control over this territory provides our ally with defensible borders, and it serves as a key buffer with the chaos next door in Syria…There are only two options: either Israel controls the Golan, or Assad and Lebanese Hezbollah control the Golan. The latter option strikes me the terrible one."

"For those who want to make the international law argument…just look at the Assad regime. This is a government that slaughters their own people, employs WMDs, and brings terrorists to Israeli borders threatening its civilian population. If you want to respect international law, you cannot reward someone like Assad who openly violates it. This is a simple choice between who you want to control that territory and the obvious choice is Israel.

On the Mueller Report:

"Since day one, I have never attacked Mueller. My simple position has been that Russia is our enemy and I want to get to the bottom of what they did in the election…The fact that there was no collusion after we have been subjected for 2 years to endless hysteria by the national media should make all of us worried about the health of our media, which we actually need to hold politicians accountable. The fact that they gave self-aggrandizing politicians…endless air time to pedal conspiracy theories is a real failure of our system right now. I am glad that we found no collusion and I am baffled at those disappointed face I have seen on cable news who almost wanted there to be evidence that the president colluded with a foreign power."
