House Passes Rep. Gallagher’s Energy Innovation Amendment
Washington, D.C. – Last night, the House of Representatives passed an amendment offered by Congressman Gallagher to reduce vulnerabilities to our nation’s electricity supply, foster renewable energy innovation, and improve U.S. national security. The amendment prioritizes the Department of Energy’s research programs that are essential to improving our nation’s low-cost electricity supply and advancing grid security.
“As our nation looks to modernize our grid, improve our domestic energy supply, and reduce national security risks, energy storage technologies must become more affordable and reliable. This fiscally responsible amendment ensures that our limited resources are spent on important research initiatives rather than Washington, D.C. bureaucrats,” Rep. Gallagher said. “Through bolstering public-private partnerships that advance innovative energy storage solutions, this amendment will help improve our grid security and make renewable energy more feasible, cost effective and deployable,” Rep. Gallagher continued.
Advances in energy storage technologies have the potential to transform the U.S. electricity system, resolving key cost and performance challenges will facilitate the deployment of these technologies, which improves the integration of intermittent renewable energy resources into the grid, reduces the risk of a disruptive cyberattack on our energy system, and expands American energy providers’ capacity to provide reliable low-cost electricity to American consumers.
