Gallagher Statement on DWD's Failure to Comply with Federal Regulations

August 2, 2021
WASHINGTON, D.C. –Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) today released the following statement after Wisconsin's non-partisan Legislative Audit Bureau released a report stating that the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) has not been in compliance with federal regulations since June of 2020.
"For over a month, Republicans in the Congressional delegation have been waiting on Governor Evers to inform us what steps DWD has taken to prevent waste, fraud, and abuse of federal unemployment dollars,"said Rep. Gallagher."Today's report that DWD isn't in compliance with the most basic federal regulations doesn't inspire any confidence in their ability to responsibly manage these funds."
In June, Rep. Gallagher led Republicans in Wisconsin's Congressional delegation in calling on Governor Evers to clarify his Administration's past and present efforts to prevent unemployment fraud following reports that up tohalf of the pandemic's unemployment money may have been stolen.
After failing to hear back from the Governor on the measures he took to reduce fraud, Gallagher led the delegation in asking the U.S. Department of Labor to review Wisconsin's unemployment insurance program and determine the extent of any waste, fraud, and abuse.
