Gallagher Sponsors Resolution Declaring National Adoption Month
Washington, D.C. – Rep. Mike Gallagher has sponsored a bipartisan resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives declaring November 2017 as National Adoption Month. The resolution is a part of a nationwide effort to promote finding safe, permanent, and loving families for children in the foster care system.
“Throughout Northeast Wisconsin, and across our country, there are thousands of children waiting to be adopted into loving homes. Not only do these adoptions strengthen individuals and families, but they strengthen our communities as a whole. I’m honored to be able to use my platform in Congress to promote the welfare of all children, and I encourage my colleagues in the House to support this resolution and spread adoption awareness.”
There are currently 427,910 children in the United States foster care system, and approximately 111,820 of those are waiting to be adopted. Since the first “National Adoption Day” in 2000, almost 58,000 children have been adopted into a family.
