Gallagher Applauds Critical Trade Agreement Between United States and Japan
Congressman Mike Gallagher (R-WI) today released the following statement after President Trump announced that the United States and Japan have signed a trade-enhancement agreement impacting agricultural, industrial, and digital trade. The agreement is the first step in a broader trade agreement with Japan, and will reduce tariff barriers and open up Japanese markets to over $7 billion in U.S. products when implemented.
“This is great news for Northeast Wisconsin,” said Rep. Gallagher. “The agreement negotiated by President Trump takes an important step forward in expanding access to Japanese markets, and will provide critical relief to hardworking farmers across our state. I applaud the Administration and Ambassador Lighthizer on their work to secure this deal, and look forward to seeing the final agreement in the coming weeks.”
In 2018, Wisconsin exported $175.2 million in agricultural products to Japan. Japan is the third-largest agricultural export market to the United States.
